Ease a sore throat with herbal throat ballsYou can ease a sore throat with herbal throat balls and they’re so easy to make. They’re all natural and so there’s no nasty chemicals in them. You can make them at home and you can even store them for up to 12 months. They’re great for kids as well as adults and they really helps ease the pain and scratchy symptoms from a throat infection. Because they have echinacea in them as well, the throat balls can help kill off the bugs that are causing the infection in the first place. So give this recipe a try and see how it can help next time your throat gets sore and itchy.

Ingredients

  • 10 gms licorice root powder
  • 10 gms marshmallow root powder
  • 5 gms echinacea powder
  • 2 gms calendula powder
  • 5 gms slippery elm powder
  • Water
  • honey

Method

Put the licorice, marshmallow, echinacea and calendula powder in a clean bowl and gently blend them together. Add enough water and honey to make the powder into a sticky paste. It will stick to the bowl and spoon and needs to be quite thick.

Add half the slippery elm powder and then knead the mix until it begins to look like bread dough.

Break the mix into small portions and roll into balls about the size of a pill. (If these throat balls are for children, make them just a little smaller.)

Coat each ball in the rest of the slippery elm powder (or you could use carob powder if you prefer) and place them on a baking tray. (Do NOT grease the baking tray but instead use baking paper to line the baking tray.)

Bake them on the absolute lowest heat of your oven, with the door open for several hours. The idea is to gently dry the throat balls, not to cook them.

Then store them in an airtight container and take one throat ball as necessary. You can take up to six a day.

Please note one point of importance. Licorice can have an effect on blood pressure and can raise it significantly. If you have high blood pressure, please take the licorice powder out of this recipe.

Smiles and abundant health, Ziggy
